Assault with Great Bodily Injury

WHAT: PC 245 (a)(1) Assault with Great Bodily Injury / PC 243(D) Battery with Serious Bodily Injury / PC 12022.7 Inflicting Great Bodily Injury while Committing a Felony WHERE: 1865 Monterey, Pappy McGregor's

WHEN: June 4, 2011 at approximately 11:30 PM

VICTIM: Jory Daniel Brigham, 32 years old, resident of Los Osos

SUSPECT: John Ryan Mason, 34 years old, resident of San Luis Obispo

On 06/04/11 at approximately 11:30 PM the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 9-1-1 phone call regarding a male subject in the bathroom of Pappy McGregor's, bleeding from the mouth and nose. The caller advised a fight had just occurred in the bathroom. Upon arrival officers found the victim, identified as Jory Brigham, lying on the bathroom floor with significant facial injuries.

The investigation revealed victim Brigham was attending Pappy McGregor's with a wedding party which also included the suspect (John Ryan Mason). While using the restroom Brigham and Mason became involved in an argument. During the argument Mason struck Brigham multiple times in the face with his fist and elbow/forearm. Brigham was knocked unconscious and suffered multiple fractures to his jaw, nose and eye area. Mason did not suffer any injures during the incident.

The Police Department has been investigating the assault since it was reported. On 06/09/11 Mason was arrested by the San Luis Obispo Police Department for the above listed charges. Mason is a Firefighter employed by the City of San Luis Obispo.

Mason was transported to County Jail and booked for the above listed charges. Bail was set at $50,000.
