On February 20, 2013 at approximately 2:30 AM, San Luis Obispo Police Officer Greg Benson
conducted a traffic stop on a silver Ford F-150 pick-up in the 1200 Block of Chorro. As the
vehicle came to a stop the female passenger, later identified as Hattie Davis, jumped out of the
passenger door and attempted to flee from officers. Davis was detained after a short foot chase.
The driver of the truck was identified as Aaron Kirby. Kirby is currently on probation for
possession of stolen property and weapons violations. During a search of Kirby's vehicle officers
discovered several items of property which were believed to be stolen from recent residential
burglaries. Officers also discovered drug paraphernalia during the initial search.
Kirby was arrested for possession of stolen property and drug related charges, and Davis was
arrested for outstanding warrants.
San Luis Obispo Police Investigators were called in to follow up on this investigation. They
found and identified property stolen from at least three recent San Luis Obispo residential
burglaries inside Kirby's vehicle. Also found in the vehicle was approximately 2 ½ ounces of
methamphetamine, a half ounce of heroin, over $3000.00 in cash, and a stolen handgun reported
out of Kings County. The investigation also led investigators to a hotel room in Arroyo Grande
which was registered to Kirby. Additional items of stolen property and drug paraphernalia were
recovered from the hotel room.
Kirby was booked into County Jail for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession for
sales of methamphetamine and heroin, and a probation violation.
Davis was booked into County Jail for outstanding warrants and resisting arrest.
This investigation is on-going in an attempt to identify further victims or additional suspects who
may be involved in these crimes. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the San Luis
Obispo Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
