WHERE: JOHNSON AND PHILLIPS KENTUCKY AND STAFFORD BOND AND HATHWAY

WHEN: 2/2/13 AT 0222 HOURS

SUSPECT: MATTHEW MARTIN, DOB 12/21/91

On 2/2/13, at approximately 0222 hours, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call from an alert citizen reporting he was following a suspect who was running down the street breaking windows to vehicles. The citizen chased the suspect, who was later identified as Matthew Martin, several blocks. The citizen caught and detained Martin until officers arrived.

Officers learned Martin was originally seen in the area of Johnson and Phillips where they located the first broken window. The citizen followed Martin to the area of Kentucky and Stafford. The citizen saw Martin break three additional car windows between the two locations.

Martin fled from the citizen and was eventually detained by him in the area of Bond and Hathway.

Martin was booked into County Jail for felony vandalism and being drunk in public. The damages are preliminarily estimated at approximately $3,000.
