This year marks the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. If you have never been, it's a truly a
remarkable and moving experience. Here are a few images I thought my fellow edhat readers might enjoy.

The spirit of 1776 is about a hundred years early.

Thanks for posting. I particularly like the pictures of parts of the Cyclorama, a 360 degree painting of the battle of Gettysburg. It's housed in a great big building with its own tour and is worth seeing for its own sake; it's very realistic as you can tell from the photos!

Spirit of '76? I just read that they are not teaching cursive writing in some schools any longer. It looks like they quit teaching American history some time ago.

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." A. Lincoln I wish we practiced what he preached. You rock Abe. (Hope I don't get nannied for saying that) Score = 20 years so 4 x 20 + 7 = 87 years.

Even if you're not interested in history.....you gotta go there. I was deeply moved emotionally at Gettysburg.... an eery, sad feeling. You feel the vibes, the aura of what happened in this historic land.....go to the quaint town of Fredrick, MD and visit the civil war medical museum, while you're at it.

Is the first picture the split rail fence that General Pickett's men had to climb over? And in the process were just annihilated by the Union artillery and musket fire?

It's been a long time since I visited that 'hallowed ground'. Took the tour and the whole era was brought to life, the people, innocent killed in their homes, the number of dead in those 3 days, ironically just before our independence day. Thanks for sharing your memories.
