Estero Bluffs Construction
updated: Jan 11, 2013, 10:54 AM

Source: Caltrans

A project to improve the turnout refuge areas along southbound Hwy. 1 north of Cayucos will begin on Monday, Jan. 14. The Estero Bluffs project will take place along a three-mile section from North Ocean Avenue to south of Villa Creek Road, on the ocean side of the highway.

This project will improve the roadside by constructing six informal pullouts by utilizing crushed stone with paved aprons and controlling invasive weeds, while maintaining coastal access.

Graded and disturbed areas will be planted and seeded with low growing native shrubs and grasses. Plants will be watered with a drip irrigation system.

Temporary wire strand fencing will be installed to control access around re-vegetated areas until new plants are established and permanent fencing will be installed to limit access to environmentally sensitive areas.

Motorists will encounter intermittent shoulder closures on Hwy. 1 Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am until 4:30 pm and from 6:30 am until 2 pm on Fridays. Occasional one-way reversing traffic control may occur Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 4 pm with some work on Fridays from 6:30 am to 2 pm.

The contractor for this $1.2 million project is Pacific Restoration Group Inc., of Perris, CA. It is expected to be completed this summer followed by a three year plant establishment period.

Caltrans wishes to thank the California Department of Parks and Recreation and the California Land Conservancy for their cooperation in designing this project.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
