A Fire With Multiple Explosions Shake Laguna Lake Mobile
Home Park
San Luis Obispo--San Luis Obispo City Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a mobile
home on fire with numerous explosions at the Laguna Lake Mobile Home Park on January 8, 2013 at
5:57pm. When San Luis Obispo City Fire's Engine 4 arrived on scene the Fire Captain reported a double
wide trailer that was fully involved in fire, multiple explosions, and the fire was spreading to another
trailer. This fire had the potential of spreading to multiple mobile homes. A quick, aggressive fire attack
by San Luis Obispo City Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. After the fire it
was discovered that the explosions were from a plethora of butane canisters found on site.
This fire took two Battalion Chiefs, 4 Fire Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Paramedic Ambulance, 1 Fire
Investigator, and 4 San Luis Obispo Police Officers, including a Fire Engine and Battalion Chief from Cal
Fire, for a total of 25 personnel, to extinguish. No emergency response personnel or civilians were
injured fighting this blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Due to some of the items found on site the Police
Department is declaring the mobile home a crime scene and is working hand-in-hand with Arson
Investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
The San Luis Obispo City Fire Department would like to remind everyone to recycle
their Christmas Trees in the "Green Waste" cans provided by their Garbage
Company.
