College Acceptance Letters

We've reached the finish line, the end of the High School rat race, and of course waiting at the end of this race are those humble envelopes filled with the ever so decisive college acceptance letters. Just this last week they've started to come in; each class is charged with the gratification of those accepted but also the taciturnity of those not. My Facebook news feed is overwhelmed with appropriately proud students and my own anticipation is reaching its' peak. While I have yet to hear back from my applied to colleges, my friends have and at the risk of sounding over dramatic, there is nothing more satisfying that seeing their faces after reading an acceptance letter. It makes sense that these meager little envelopes are so significant in our lives as they act as the result to all our hard work. Although, the college process is not always fair, that is all forgotten the moment you open your first acceptance letter.
I carry the flaw of having a sometimes cynical attitude toward the college system, however lately this is changing. Seeing my friends open those letters is like seeing someone who has just became aware of their potential, seeing that hard work does pay off. It's a pretty crazy thought that in an envelope lies the direction in which my life will go, that with the words "congratulations, you've been accepted", I will get that much closer to the future I have imagined.
