Is that the Dolphin Bay Resort?

Looks nice and I bet your family had a wonderful time....Sometimes it's just a nice thing to get away...even if it's only an hour up the road.....and spend time with family.

I applaud you.

Chances are; people who live up there drive down here and feel equally delighted and refreshed.

Wow.... now THAT's a fiery sunset.

I do enjoy the 5 Cities area but having the fwy right next to the coast is off putting. Take the good with the bad I guess.

that was some sunset last night!

That's the Cliffs, next to Dolphin Bay which is a resort condo complex.

Lived up there my whole life until a few years ago when moving to SB for work. I definitely miss the beaches along the 5 cities and Montana de Oro.

Lived there for years. Had to be extracted by family and dragged farther North. Freeway not a big deal - - there's usually not a lot of traffic. Climate could be used as an example for "temperate." My favorite plants loved it.

We were out in the tules but if we needed something city-ish it wasn't far away.

Years ago some Central Coasters used to spend Mondays gossiping about which locals they'd spotted during their (not-really-possible without relatives, tall hedges, and nose-putty) sneaky weekend getaways in SB.

Carmel was about as private...

Me? Not I. Never. Really.

louray, the ones who really wanted to be sneaky were out in California Valley.

We were actually staying at the SeaCrest Inn. Both photos were taken from our balcony. I cannot recommend the place enough. Service was excellent. We will be back soon for 2 nights next time.

There was a place in San Simeon my husband always wanted to try. If he did, it wasn't with me.

The one I heard was, "you take your wife to Pismo and your girlfriend to Cambria"

Pismo was much too close. We were nearly in it.

Got tooken a lot of places over the years, most of them involving tents, dirt, fish, dirt, or motor vehicles. Oh, and residues of grape and grain. There was the occasional boat, but not the one in your sun-drenched dreams, that one with the canvas snapping above a varnished deck as you race the flying fishes toward Tahiti. Think "stink-pot" large and small.

H'mm. I always said we didn't go to Cambria nearly often enough.

But the point of today's lesson in sneakiness is "Never Assume," with its well-known etymology.

How far is far enough? Whose boat is anonymous enough? Which charts are good enough? Forecast - - what forecast?

Never Assume you can't be spectacularly shipwrecked on an otherwise slow news day, and please don't make up a name for your companion who's going to be reported as your "wife" unless it's something the real one likes.

Some of your more sodden friends may call her that for years.

"Comedy is tragedy plus time" if I have the Carol Burnett quote right. So right in this case. :-)
