On November 7th 2012, at approximately 12:09 AM the San Luis Obispo Police Department
received a call regarding a man screaming in the area of Santa Rosa Park. San Luis Obispo
Police responded to Santa Rosa Park and upon arrival officers located a male subject who had
been shot in the back with what appeared to be a small caliber bullet. The victim was transported
to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment. Doctors were unable to remove the bullet, due to the fact
it was lodged between two vertebras and close to the spinal cord. The victim has been released
from the hospital and is experiencing some paralysis in his right leg.
The San Luis Obispo Police Department began an investigation into the incident. During the
investigation it was discovered that the suspects met in San Luis Obispo and developed a
conspiracy to steal money from the victim who was attempting to purchase a large quantity of
marijuana. When the suspects confronted the victim he began to run and one of the suspects shot
him in the back as he fled.

"We are fortunate these crimes do not occur in SLO as often as in other communities. When they
do, we want to send a loud message that we will do whatever it takes to find those responsible
and hold them accountable. I think we've sent that message with these arrests and weeks of
diligent police work." - Stephen Gesell, San Luis Obispo Chief of Police
