Suspicious Plant

Can anyone tell me what plant this is? It just started growing, on its own, out of the side of my raised
planters...Is it a flower, weed, tree or what?

Don't know what it is, but it's a nice looking plant! I doubt it'll become a tree, and a weed is just a plant that you don't want, so since you're taking a picture of it I bet you like it enough to see if it flowers!

I don't know what it is, but I can tell you it is none of the above guesses. The "Ligiri" tree has similar leaves, with the red stem. But don't think they grow around here.

Certainly not taro. We grow several species here in Noleta (for both food and decoration) and used to grow many more when we lived in the tropics - not even close to taro.

Thank you, 115! I spent hours yesterday, getting only slightly side-tracked, trying to i.d. this plant. Common name is "Queensland Poplar," as it is native to northeastern Australia. San Marcos Growers has all the info on these. Growth habit is 8-10 feet tall, with a spread about the same. Deciduous only if there's a freeze. Not considered a weed here. Has a green-yellow flower. I'd call San Marcos and ask them how much they charge for one of these trees (although they only sell wholesale). Maybe you could pot it up and sell it on Craigslist. (People buy lots of plants off Clist.)
